Scotiabank Theatre Edmonton

Located in the north end of Canada’s biggest shopping and entertainment complex, the West Edmonton Mall, the Scotiabank Edmonton (formerly SilverCity West Edmonton Mall) has got everything one can ask for in a big-box movie theatre: 12 enormous screens, an IMAX auditorium, a state-of-the art sound system and several pizza, burger and ice cream options. Since it opened in May 1999, the theatre is one of the busiest in Alberta. But it also has something that not many theatres can attest to having: a fire-breathing dragon! An animatronic dragon creature hangs perched above the lineup for the IMAX screen, and during certain occasions, it moves around, roars, blows off steam and then expels fire. The eerie music and fiery effects can be frightening, but the creature delivers an extra bonus to those who paid for IMAX admission (and those who happen to be walking nearby). Parking is available at the shopping mall.
