Chris Hemsworth paints his nails to stop child abuse

Chris Hemsworth, a.k.a. Thor, is polishing his nail(s) this October as part of the Polished Man campaign, which is working to stop child abuse.
The campaign, which was first launched in 2014 by the not-for-profit Australian-based organization YGAP, wants men (not just celebrities!) to post pictures of themselves with at least one fingernail painted. Many men are opting to do all of their fingers, some with a different color on every nail.
The inspiration for the campaign came when YGAP CEO Elliot Costello visited Cambodia, where he met a little girl named Thea who’d been removed from an abusive situation by the human rights organization Hagar International. He spent an afternoon with her, then let Thea paint his nails blue before they had to say goodbye.
YGAP’s website claims one in five children experiences physical and/or sexual abuse before reaching age 18, and most of this (90 percent) is committed by men. That’s why the organization is asking men to paint a fingernail a bright color — to bring worldwide attention to this issue.
Other celebs who’ve joined the movement include Alec Baldwin, who painted his right pinky nail blue, and Olympic medalist Michael Klim.
All you have to do is paint at least one nail, then add the photo to Instagram and/or Twitter with the tag @polishedman or #polishedman.

He’s got kids, and it’s an extremely worthy idea. Spread the word- that you can be a tough guy and not abuse helpless kids. Anyone who lays a hand on a kid deserves a beatdown.
I am the founder and Executive Director of the first agency in Canada providing therapy for male victims of sexual abuse. I estimate that nearly 25% of the male population have been victims of sexual abuse, but most will not disclose this to ANYONE. There is so much shame attached and the false notion that real men don’t get abuse. They do and are traumatized by their experience. In my client population around 40% have been abused by women, but none have reported their female offenders to the police, so the misconception that women rarely abuse persists. The numbers or percentages don’t really matter. Victims and offenders come in all races, gender, religions, socio-economic strata. We need to see the whole picture. Only then can we hope to end sexual abuse in our communities. Allegorically, we can not eradicate a contagious disease by treating only some people infected by it.
