Melissa McCarthy fires abusive movie extra

Bridesmaids star Melissa McCarthy, who is currently filming her new movie Tammy in Wilmington, North Carolina, had an interesting incident involving an extra this week. Melissa, who plays the title role, is also the co-writer and director, along with her husband and Bridesmaids love interest, Ben Falcone. According to TMZ, while filming was going on for a scene by a lake, a background performer in her twenties brought her young child, who was about five years old, on the set. The woman frequently disrupted the shoot by screaming at the child. Then, when that failed, in front of the entire crew – and in sight of McCarthy – the woman yanked the child into the air by the wrist. McCarthy, who has two young daughters, immediately had production assistants remove the woman, saying she wouldn’t tolerate abuse on her set. Tammy, which also stars Susan Sarandon, Dan Aykroyd and Kathy Bates, comes out in theaters July 2, 2014. ~Cassie Jasinski

Clint Eastwood’s Richard Jewell is a biopic that’s just as compelling as its lead character. The movie drives home a compelling story about injustice.
Good, but did she report it to child welfare?
Probably yanking the kid by the arm isn’t enough to call in child welfare. And in case she thinks she did something great, that kid was probably beaten for ruining everything once they were home.
Honestly who hires people asking these questions?
This would have been a much better story than question asking piece…
Who the hell would support child abuse?

Let’s pray that poor child did not have to pay further once they got home!! Good for Melissa for her actions…now let’s hope someone in that woman’s family is made aware of her abuse.
She did not overreact at all. That should not be tolerated, but I wouldn’t have let her bring her child to the location in the first place.

Actually, grabbing the child by the wrist and lifting her off the ground is enough to have that woman charged with child abuse. That kind of activity leads to more dislocated shoulders and other similar injuries all the time. That individual (reluctant to call that a woman) should have been reported and that child removed. Great that Melissa had her thrown out, but why not be more concerned about the welfare of that child and made sure that she was safe.
So, abuse is OK as long as she doesn’t have to see it? Unless she also took the step of reporting the woman to CPS the result is probably that the abuse has gotten worse because Mom of the Year will now be blaming the child for getting fired.
Why didn’t the director stop it? Why is is the star of the movie who had to do that?

I agree also that the extra should have been reported.
Somebody could have had a Social Work check the situation immediately and if necessary have the child removed to care and the Mother placed into counseling for anger management. Who knows what this innocent one has endured already or will face in the future, many children have been seriously injured or even have died from abusive treatment
