Ryan Reynolds father dies storyRyan Reynolds, 39, is mourning the loss of his father James C. Reynolds. Earlier today, he tweeted out: “RIP Pops. James C. Reynolds. 1941-2015,” posting a picture from back in the day of his father holding him as a baby. He and his wife Blake Lively named their daughter James after his father, to whom he was close.

James C. Reynolds, survived by his wife Tammy Reynolds and four sons, died in a British Columbia hospital on Sunday. He had quietly suffered from Parkinson’s Disease for 20 years.

Ryan, star of films such as The Amityville Horror, Definitely, Maybe, The Proposal and The Green Lantern, spoke about his father on the Today show last year: “My father really hasn’t ever said he has Parkinson’s disease. He comes from a pretty prideful generation, and he doesn’t really talk about it too much. But, he’s maybe said it once or twice out loud.”

In 2008, Ryan ran in the New York City Marathon, and he wrote an essay for the Huffington Post explaining why. “Witnessing my Dad suffer over the years galvanized my need to step up. … It’s my hope the story of my father combined with my own goal of becoming the first person in history to sob uncontrollably for 26.2 miles straight, may inspire you to give something too.”

In 2008, he also joined the The Michael J. Fox Foundation, an organization that raises public awareness of the disease. In his tweet, he has asked fans to support the Michael J. Fox Foundation and donate. ~Sharon Salsberg

It is with deep sadness that my heart goes out to you at the loss of your father. So sorry for the loss of your father.
I kind of have a feeling of what you are going through having gone through the same thing myself five years ago. My dad died of Dementia which is a form of Alzheimer’s. Even though we know they are sick it is still a shock when they go.
