Adam Lambert attacks Susan Boyle’s success

By Alexandra Heilbron on February 25, 2010 | 66 Comments

Adam Lambert brings the claws outCould Adam Lambert be jealous of Susan Boyle’s enormous success (her debut album was the best-selling album of 2009)? It’s hard to understand why he would have slammed her single, the cover of the Rolling Stones’ “Wild Horses,” saying it made him “cry with laughter.” Lambert has had a fair share of success himself, selling 200,000 copies of his own debut album during the first week of release, and like Boyle he came in second in a major talent competition, so what’s up with him bringing out the claws when talking to Britain’s Gay Times: “I’m happy for [Susan Boyle’s] success, but that album is terrible. “Wild Horses” is the one that made me laugh the hardest. I just died when I heard it, I was crying with laughter. It was the most horrendous, sacrilegious treatment of that song!” He goes on to pat himself on the back, saying, “Still, when my album charted, it was validating. I was feeling a bit attacked, like I had to vindicate something. I thought: ‘Wow, look what I did.'” ~Alexandra Heilbron

Uh…okay. Not something I was expecting from g
    him. That’s a shame.

  2. Dennis Heber • February 25, 2010 @ 10:08 AM

This comment coming from some freak!!Ya right

  3. Liz • February 25, 2010 @ 10:25 AM

I cannot believe someone would actually say this. Why would he ever say something like that “out loud”. This makes you look bad Adam, very bad.

  4. Nancy • February 25, 2010 @ 10:32 AM

Here we go again, Queenie, in full drag! I guess his record label and rep never told him that one rule of thumb is to not slam others in the biz when they haven’t slammed you. What an idiot!

  5. Bill • February 25, 2010 @ 11:10 AM

The “man” obviously has no class whatsoever. Why would he feel the need to slam another singer’s success, if only to make him feel better about himself? Oh, and someone should let him know that he makes a ridiculous imitation of Billy Idol. Put down the fancy gloves, Adam, nobody’s intimidated by anyone wearing that much makeup.

  6. jjones • February 25, 2010 @ 11:36 AM

Someone like Adam whose music is of a totally different genre shouldn’t be critical unless he’s jealous. He’s a bit of freakaziod, so maybe that’s all we should expect from him. I can’t wait for him to go away.

  7. Adamantium • February 25, 2010 @ 11:53 AM

I’m pretty open minded-especially about music. I couldn’t even get through Adam Lambert’s entire album and congrats to you, Adam, I still have 20 gigs left on my iPod and yours was the only album that got erased from it. I don’t normally comment but your comment bred this comment. I think you may see more of this kind of thing with your attitude.

  8. Linda • February 25, 2010 @ 12:03 PM

Adam Lambert continues to prove himself a jerk .

  9. Marilyne • February 25, 2010 @ 12:21 PM

I am sorry that a man with such talent, does not have the “class” to go with it!!! Adam do the world a favor and just “shut up” and sing. Obviously whenever you open your mouth you put your foot in it!!!!!!

  10. tributegirl • February 25, 2010 @ 12:28 PM

Wow, this really doesn’t seem like the same Adam that was on AI. That was pretty immature and unnecessary, Adam.

  11. Ruth • February 25, 2010 @ 1:00 PM

From a Canadian who likes to live & let live, something Adam has not learnt yet. I find you an insensitive human being who was never taught”if you have nothing nice to say… keep you mouth shut”. Who made you the know it all expert overnight… watch it, you may be a one day wonder especially with your outlandish behaviour & disgusting attitude. I will listen to and purchase Susan Boyle’s music any day. You make up part of society that is quickly sending it to hell in a hand basket!%$#& Get a life or stay in the recording studio. The less I see and hear of you the better.Come out when you clean you your act & your mouth.

  12. Dory • February 25, 2010 @ 1:24 PM

I believe Adam is still pretty immature about life. He says anything that is on his mind and he needs to learn when to shut up. If he continues flying away with his mouth I don’t think he’s going to have much of a career. No one will touch him. Shame too, I think he is very talented.

  13. Red • February 25, 2010 @ 1:28 PM

That’s just sickening… who says that, really?! I’ve heard nothing but good about Susan Boyle, but the news about this Adam character is slowly spiralling and getting worse.
And that picture made me cringe.

  14. Kim • February 25, 2010 @ 2:10 PM

Adam was my favorite on A.I. and I was saddened by his placing, but apparantly that did not affect his ego. I knew that he would be successful, but now I think he is his own enemy. I bought Susan’s CD and I thought it was fantastic. When Susan sings “Cry me A River”, her performance at times she sounds like Barbara Streisand. How many newcomers can come close to that. I think Adam should get his hearing checked and then listen to “Who I Was Born To Be”!

  15. 879807897 • February 25, 2010 @ 2:42 PM

I have no idea who he is, but he’s CREEPY!

  16. Evelyn • February 25, 2010 @ 4:08 PM

    Adam who?

  17. Evelyn Dunnigan • February 25, 2010 @ 4:17 PM

Adam, your 15 minutes are up! Leave the fragile and beautiful others alone!

  18. Thibz • February 25, 2010 @ 4:21 PM

First off Lamberts album is complete garbage and it all sounds the same. He most likely did not write the music to the album. The only talent he has is being a douche bag. Maybe he should join forces with Perez Hilton because there both a couple of idiots without a cause. Im not a fan of susan but i can say with all due respect she has a pure voice and heart. Adam on the other hand loves to mimic other artist like Bowie as i mentioned in a previous article. If he cant be himself and create his own sound and image then where the hell does he get off putting someone else down who actually is herself.

  19. HBhannahbrown • February 25, 2010 @ 4:54 PM

I’ll tell you what’s laughable. The cover of his CD. It’s like some throwback to cheap 80s vinyl, and not in a good way. The photoshop is also terrible, one of his shoulders goes on forever and the other one doesn’t exist! The CD cover was featured in the infamous Photoshop Disaster Blog, if that’s any indication of how horrible it is.

  20. josh • February 25, 2010 @ 5:23 PM

nobody is listening to you anymore maybe when you make something worthwhile listening to people will take you seriously.. ohh wait a minute thats right its you

  21. Amanda • February 25, 2010 @ 5:51 PM

Wow Adam, you truly are a fag. Ever since you became famous you have become some rich gay boy, who can barely take criticism from other people but yet you say shit like that about other talented people. You have no class, you disgust me. I think Susan is amazing, and her voice is phenomenal, unlike your album release.. wtf was that. I don’t think your album was what anybody was expecting. Which is why you didn’t get as much as Susan you douche.

  22. jackie • February 25, 2010 @ 6:56 PM

So sad….I didn’t think he was like this. I look at him in a whole different light now.

  23. J.J. "The W" • February 25, 2010 @ 6:57 PM

Hey Adam Lambert, listen up…your sweet mama raised you up better than they way you’ve been acting and speaking in 2009/2010.
    – didn’t NBC or CBS and the mainstream already give ya the wake up call.
    – Susan Boyle has earned it big time, at her point in life she certainly doesn’t need anymore negativity in her life especially from a rude generation X mouth piece !
    – Lambert, class it Up…OK ? be a star, earn a star, ok?

  24. Leanne • February 25, 2010 @ 7:19 PM

    What an immature jerk.

  25. Rick • February 25, 2010 @ 8:26 PM

I think Lambert is starting to believe some of his own press..With this comment he has really dropped as a person in my eyes..This guy is going down hill at a rather fast pace with all the garbage that is flowing from his mouth lately..This is NOT the kind of publicity you really want to generate..

  26. Liana • February 25, 2010 @ 8:34 PM

Susan Boyle is quite humble and very likeable. To me, she is quite refreshing from all those young, disposable teen pop clones because she is interesting, and never boring. I actually liked Adam on American Idol, but boy, what a monster that ego has become.

  27. Randy • February 25, 2010 @ 8:58 PM

I’m sorry, I’d have to agree with Adam. I’m happy that Susan Boyle has found success, she’s the feel good story of the moment but her music is defiantly not for me.

  28. Teresa • February 25, 2010 @ 9:17 PM

I thought Adam was the greatest for a long time. Now, I am beginning to think that I made a snap decision. That statement was just mean. And to say that to the press was terrible judgement.

  29. jo • February 25, 2010 @ 10:35 PM

    Wow, I can’t believe I use to love Adam. He’s a complete d-chebag now.

  30. Brenda • February 25, 2010 @ 10:40 PM

I am not surprised to hear these comments coming from Adam Lambert. They validate my first and continuing opinion of his character based on his consistent behavior flagrantly displayed to the public. Unfortunately great talent is not always accompanied by maturity or respect, for others. A lack of these personal characteristics can cost talent much in the world of accomplishment over time.
Give me Susan Boyle anytime. I may hear you on the radio Adam, however, I will not support you by spending my personalearnings on your creations. May you find humility, appreciation for others, and a tender loving heart.

  32. mandee • February 25, 2010 @ 11:22 PM

i started to read some of these comments, but then i changed my mind. adam has the right (as anyone else in the world, including those of you that post on here) to speak his mind and his opinions about anything he wants. that being said, i do believe what he said was uncalled for and rude, but it does sound to me like he IS jealous that susan was more successful in selling albums than he was. why else would he (after insulting her album) go on to praise himself up? he is looking for attention and is trying to make himself look better. clearly, he didnt think his comment would have such a negative affect (sorry, is it effect?) on his image, just like he never thought being himself and wearing the makeup that he loves to wear would have a negative affect (effect?) on his image (by ADULTS no less). in a world of freedom of expression and freedom of speech, we have a LOT of people that judge someone based on how they look or what they personally think. its pretty sad that he would be discriminated against based on how he looks. i am still a fan of adams, i didnt choose to listen to susans album because its not the type of music i would be into, and im thinking adam probably didnt listen to it either.

  33. Emy • February 26, 2010 @ 6:04 AM

Wow. Ever since Idol I’ve been losing respect for Adam, and gaining a lot for Kris. Which is crazy, since I was really rooting for Adam last year. He was really charismatic, now I’m happy Kris won, at least the guy’s modest.

  34. demigod • February 26, 2010 @ 8:53 AM

So he really hates her album. So what? It’s his opinion. Doesn’t mean he’s jealous. He did say he’s happy for her success. Boyle sure has a high ‘sympathy register’ from the hearts and minds of..

  35. silver • February 26, 2010 @ 10:33 AM

Nancy and Amanda, can you please explain what your comments mean? Specifically:

Nancy — “Queenie” and “in full drag”. Where is he in drag? Certainly not in the picture shown. Does he have a nickname Queenie I haven’t heard about?

Amanda — “you truly are a fag” and “rich gay boy” – what qualities are these supposed to be describing?

I think he went way too far in giving his “opinion” on Boyle’s music. He could have said he didn’t like it without being relentlessly negative and mocking.

But I don’t know what any of this has to do with him being gay.

  36. Nancy • February 26, 2010 @ 10:54 AM

Okay, Silver…I think I’ve made it pretty clear on here, what with all the Adam Lambert articles, that I DON’T like him AT ALL. He wears far too much makeup IN MY OPINION. I always call him a ‘Drag Queen’…hence the “Queenie” and “in full drag” comment. I have nothing against anyone who is gay, I DO however have a problem with Adam wearing a full face of makeup. I think it’s disgusting and funny, and in his words: “I just died with laughter”!! LOL.

  37. Ron Manke • February 26, 2010 @ 12:09 PM

All this does is point out his insensitivity, insecurities and inability to appreciate different types of music.

Susan’s album is great, based on people I know that have bought it.

Personally, Wild Horses is one of my favourite songs, and I thought she made a nice new take on it.

Maybe he should spend his time focussing on his own music style. Why is he even bothering to listen to Susan’s CD if he doesn’t like that kind of music?

  38. Ron Manke • February 26, 2010 @ 12:11 PM

Oh, ya, and shame on him for going after someone who is obviously a bit shy and apprehensive about her abilities! She’s already had one breakdown because of the pressure…

Is he trying to take her out by stirring up trouble??

  39. silver • February 26, 2010 @ 12:19 PM

Thank you for clarifying that, Nancy. Unlike some others, I don’t keep track of everyone’s comments on all prior stories.

I think he looks kind of silly in some of his pictures, and especially the stupid sneer in this one, it all seems so posed, and that it is a persona, and not him. I haven’t heard his music, so I can’t comment on that.

But I am curious, what exactly about him wearing makeup is a problem for you? Is it him in particular, or any man, or is it too much makeup, or is any makeup on a man too much? ‘Disgusting’ is a pretty strong reaction, so I am curious what it is that you don’t like about it.

As for calling him a drag queen, I think that is kind of inaccurate, since I don’t believe he dresses in women’s clothes, or tries to appear like a woman, which is what a drag queen is. However, I am not sure how much of this is him, and how much is marketing. I think to be blatantly, purposely controversial just for the sake of controversy and attention is boring, and laughable, and if that is the case here, I agree with you not liking it.

  40. JoJo • February 26, 2010 @ 4:21 PM

My experience – those who belittle or judge others do it because they are insecure. Look at the facade he hides behind and tell me I’m wrong. What a shame, good voice wasted.

  41. Phil • February 26, 2010 @ 4:58 PM

The one thing you have to keep in mind is that it was a quote from one of fleet street’s finest lol…probably taken out of context also. I can’t comment on Susan Boyle’s disc as I haven’t heard it, and probably won’t buy it either but I really can’t see her singing a Stone’s song and doing it justice.
Everyone here is quite ready to vilify Adam, not just for his comment, but also for his stage presence…get over it kids, it is called entertainment for a reason, it isn’t serious and it isn’t rocket science.
In case you don’t think I know anything, I have been in the music industry for over 40 years, mostly playing drums in rock bands so I think that gives me the right to say what I think.
All these talent shows are there for is to show the industry that it can convince the general public to buy whatever they tell them is the next thing. All the acts are flavor of the month, they will be gone in a couple of years at best. There are no more bands or singers that will be around for 40 years or more. We are too much into instant gratification, then once we get it, we need to find the “next greatest thing” lol.
The entertainment industry calls it…eating their young, so enjoy them while they last.

  42. Phil • February 26, 2010 @ 5:02 PM

Oh, just read Ron’s comment. If Susan can’t take the pressure, she is in the wrong business, as per my original comment about the entertainment industry eating it’s young.

  43. mandee • February 26, 2010 @ 5:38 PM

demigod and silver on February 26, 2010 10:33 AM great comments. also, youre right demigod, he may not be jealous. im just wondering why he would mock someone that has done nothing to him? he probably really hurt her feelings. i wonder if he cares?

Nancy on February 26, 2010 10:54 AM im not trying to start a fight here, im just curious. because you “DONT like him AT ALL” why do you bother reading articles about him just to comment negatively on how he dresses or because he wears makeup? for someone that is so “tolerant” of other people and their right to opinions, you are very intolerant of their right to freedom of expression.

Phil on February 26, 2010 4:58 PM i admire this comment.

on the comments about adam being insecure, i personally believe most of the entertainers of the world are extremely insecure. normal people are crazy insecure and we only have to deal with other normal people and people we will never see (and will never see us) again. these people HAVE to look good 24/7 they HAVE to say nice things and intelligent things 24/7 they have to watch everything they say, do, eat, who they are seen with etc because people CANT HANDLE that beneath all the makeup, the hair, the good looks, they are still just people. living, growing, making mistakes, just like the rest of us. so what if they have more money? so what if they acted in a movie, tv show, sang on the radio, tv, in concert etc? they are still just PEOPLE. it doesnt make them any better or any different than us. money isnt everything. they still have to deal with the same realistic issues we deal with every day. i hate all the hype that makes it so people cant meet with or speak to celebs without it being the biggest flippin thing in the world. its nuts.

  44. MIRIAM ROSE • February 26, 2010 @ 8:54 PM

My late father always said; if you cann’t say something nice about a person. then don’t say anything at all.Apparently Adam does not have good manners and it is always about himself.I am very disaponted in him.

  45. Richard • February 27, 2010 @ 12:14 AM

I always knew right from the start that this guy, or should I say freak, had no taste in music. I bought Susan Boyle’s album and I enjoyed it very much, but I definitely didn’t buy his – Thank God !!!

  46. Nancy • February 27, 2010 @ 1:24 AM

Silver: I don’t like Adam in particular, I don’t like any man wearing makeup. I find he wears WAYYYYYYYYYYYY too much makeup and I don’t find it to be a stage image at all. I believe this is the way Adam is 24/7. I just plain don’t like the guy, never have. I call any man who wears a full face of makeup like he has (foundation, powder, eyeliner, eyeshadow, mascara, blush, lipstick), a drag queen. In fact, the only thing he is missing is the long haired wig and the dress, hahahaha.

Mandee: Well, “not trying to start a fight here” either but, I read most all the articles here and comment on a great majority of them too, good or bad. You know that. I can’t believe he would be so rude about Susan Boyle. Now, I’m curious as well….of all the people who made not-so-nice comments about Adam, why did you specify your question only to me if you weren’t “trying to start a fight here”? I’ve been very, very clear for a very long time that I have nothing against anyone who is gay but when certain guys wear a full face of makeup or dresses, or talk really feminine, it really gets on my nerves.

  47. Nancy • February 27, 2010 @ 1:26 AM

Women also, who dress and act like men, get their hair cut like men, etc.

  48. NancyLee • February 27, 2010 @ 1:16 PM

Adam is only killing his own career if thats what you call it. Susan Boyle has never said a bad thing about anybody. She is a beautiful person inside and out and the world fell in love with her and she didn’t even have to try. It was so natural. Susan will be around a long time after Adam is forgotten because she has class.

  49. Fraydeecat • February 27, 2010 @ 1:40 PM

Nancy: “Ive been very, very clear for a very long time that I have nothing against anyone who is gay”.
LOLOL!! What a statement! My gosh of anyone who posts on these subjects I haven’t noticed anyone MORE prejudiced against gays than you!!! It’s known fact you hate gays. Psychologists and other specialists say that people who are THAT anti-gay are this way because they are closet gays themselves and afraid of the truth about themselves. If not, they’d have no reason to be so threatened by them, which is clear by the display of intolerance for their ways and lifestyles.

  50. mandee • February 27, 2010 @ 2:10 PM

Richard on February 27, 2010 12:14 AM dont worry, with how much you enjoyed susans album im sure adam thinks YOURE a “freak” too.

Nancy on February 27, 2010 1:24 AM the reason i only asked you was because i really was simply curious. the rest of these people i dont know so their ignorance and rude, insulting behaviour can be overlooked. you dont generally come off to me to be so rude about celebs. i only comment on articles i think are worth reading and commenting on. also, i forgot to include up there ^ that the other reason is i really only read the first 2 or 3 comments and then didnt read any more (except the ones from you and silver because i recognized the name) because i dont care what peoples opinions on adam are, they shouldnt be so rude to someone they have never met based on appearances alone.

the comments from everyone are not really that different than adam talking about susan, but he didnt choose to make fun of her based on her looks, gender, sexual preference, he chose to only attack her music (which really, who isnt guilty of doing the same thing with other people? perfect example, there are many on here saying in a rude way that they dislike adams music) but for anyone on here to attack adam because hes gay, wears make up, is different than everyone else (or whatever stupid thing people commented about) is ridiculous. you are all worse than adam is lol.

  51. Nancy • February 27, 2010 @ 5:26 PM

Susan can’t help her voice…Adam can’t help his looks EXCEPT when he puts a pound of makeup on. LOL. I don’t consider myself judging him “worse”.

  52. Nancy • February 27, 2010 @ 10:03 PM

Fraydeecat: I totally invite you to bring any comment of mine where I am being “prejudiced against gays”.

Anyone on here who knows me in the cyber sense, haha, knows damn well that what you said is a crock! LMFAO!!

  53. demigod • February 27, 2010 @ 10:06 PM

You just can’t help bashing him on every article. Gene wears more makeup. And Adam can sing.

  54. Nancy • February 28, 2010 @ 12:35 AM

So what if I bash Adam on every article? What’s it to you? You got a thing for him or something? Just say your piece and move on. Why do you guys keep asking me to elaborate on my comments and then pick pick pick pick pick the hell outta them? It’s like you guys just can’t get enough of me, LOL. Anyways, Gene Simmons wears makeup on stage and that’s it and it’s not a full face of “girl makeup”, it’s COSTUME makeup whereas Adam is like this everyday…on and off stage. I better add AGAIN, that my comments here have absolutely nothing to do with anyone being gay. I could care less which sex anyone is, it’s how you present yourself.

  55. demigod • February 28, 2010 @ 3:30 AM

‘Say your piece and move on’ – Is that your new blogging mantra you’ve laid out for us all? I’ll move on when I damn well please. Most do move on, you GO on lol
Gene’s costume would fit right in at a gay pride parade.

  56. Mandy • February 28, 2010 @ 4:18 AM

Wow, i’m really shocked to know he actually said this about Susan. I didn’t want to believe it. I defended Adam when people talked bad about him because it’s not about how someone looks or about their sexuality. It’s about who they are. I listen to Adam’s CD everyday. Now, I don’t want to. I thought he was a great role model, but i’m not so sure now. I lost a lot of respect for him. Adam, do not let fame and everything else go to your head. The nation loves the sweet guy that was on American Idol. Where did he go?

  57. Nancy • February 28, 2010 @ 11:54 AM

Demigod, you say “I’ll move on when I damn well please”

Well, okay…then, I’ll SAY “what I damn well please”. “ditz”.

  58. Imy • February 28, 2010 @ 3:50 PM

Adam is a freak and he’s GOD only in his mind… jerk. I bought Susan’s album and I will NEVER buy into anything he is involved in. Stuck-up stupid man or whatever he is!! Go away!

  59. mandee • February 28, 2010 @ 5:13 PM

Mandy on February 28, 2010 4:18 AM you enjoy adams music so much that you listen to it everyday, but now that he admitted he doesnt like susans album and showed the traits of a HUMAN BEING you lost all respect for him and no longer…like? his music? you were obviously not that big of an adam fan to begin with.

Imy on February 28, 2010 3:50 PM perhaps adam finds SUSAN to be a freak, does that make him right? if not, then why does it make YOU right that “Adam is a freak”?

  60. Nancy • March 1, 2010 @ 12:06 AM

    GO SID GO!!!

  64. Nancy • March 2, 2010 @ 7:57 PM

Yep! Can always count on Sid The Kid! I caught most of it. I was back and forth between the game and Facebook, LOL.

  65. Lidia • March 4, 2010 @ 10:45 PM

We don’t like Adam’s Lambert songs at all, they are horrible. He makes himself look with this makeup like a clown.I wonder doesn’t he sees himself? Why in the world this people make themselves look funny or strange? Are they out of mind? His comment about Susan Boyle was very rude and immature.

  66. tributegirl • March 5, 2010 @ 5:20 PM

Nancy, I watched every minute of the game, it was amazing! When the USA scored that second goal, with only a few seconds left in the game, and tied it up, I couldn’t believe it! I really thought we were done for then!
