Avatar: The Way of Water tops weekend box office fifth time

Avatar: The Way of WaterAvatar: The Way of Water again took the top spot at the box office, and with no blockbusters scheduled to release until February, it may continue that way for weeks to come. Check out all the films that made the top 5 at the weekend box office.

For the fifth weekend in a row, Avatar: The Way of Water starring Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana raked in an extra $31.1 million for an amazing domestic total of $562.9 million.

M3GAN, starring Allison Williams as a toy-company roboticist who builds an AI doll for her niece, remained in second place with $17.9 million for a two-week total of $56.5 million.

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish held onto third place. The animated film, starring the voice of Antonio Banderas in the title role, took in an additional $13.4 million, earning a total of $106.4 million in four weeks.

A Man Called Otto starring Tom Hanks, which opened even wider across North America this weekend, remained in fourth place with an extra $12.7 million, upping its total take to $18.9 million.

Rounding out the top five was the new action/thriller Plane starring Gerard Butler. It earned $10 million in its debut weekend. ~Alexandra Heilbron
