Brave debuts at top of weekend box office

The new animated family film Brave, featuring a feisty Scottish princess named Merida, captured the top spot at the weekend box office, taking in $66.7 million (all figures U.S.) at domestic theaters as well as an additional $13.5 million internationally for a total of over $80 million, making it Pixar’s 13th release to debut at No. 1. Tribute.ca users gave it a high rating of 4.2 out of 5 stars. After two weeks at the top, the animated feature Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted dropped to second with an estimated $20.2 million and a 3 star rating at Tribute.ca. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter garnered $16.5 million in its debut weekend, also with 3 stars from our readers. The sci-fi themed Prometheus, starring Charlize Theron, fell two places to fourth, earning an additional $10 million and 3.6 stars. Rounding out the top five was Snow White & the Huntsman starring Kristen Stewart, earning an additional $8 million and 4 stars from Tribute viewers.
