Mel Gibson to plead no contest to battery

By Alexandra Heilbron on March 10, 2011 | 10 Comments

Mel Gibson will plead no contest to simple battery tomorrow when he appears in court to face charges that he struck Oksana Grigorieva, the mother of his youngest daughter, on January 6, 2010, according to TMZ. In exchange, prosecutors have allegedly agreed that Gibson will have to undergo counseling, but he will not be sentenced to any jail time. Mel’s lawyer, Blair Berk, released the following statement: “I know from almost 20 years as a criminal defense lawyer that sometimes justice can come for a client at too high a personal price. That is particularly so for Mel, whose right to due process can only be exercised in this case with an enormous media circus attached. Mel’s priority throughout all of this has been that the best interests of his young daughter Lucia and the rest of his children be put first in any decisions made. It is with only that in mind that he asked me to approach the District Attorney with a proposal that would bring all of this to an immediate end.” According to Oksana’s lawyer, she “trusts the District Attorney’s Office with their decision.” In the past, Oksana has said that she feels Mel needs counseling, but not jail time. Mel’s new movie The Beaver, directed by and co-starring Jodie Foster, in which he plays a depressed man who speaks through a beaver puppet, opens May 6 in North America.

His ex-girlfriend doesn’t sound so bad. Everyone paints her in a negative light, as if she deserved those unbelievably frightening phone calls but she sounds like she just wants what’s best for everyone.

I can’t agree with everything Gibson has done and said but at the end of the day, he is a guy who is obviously fighting some issues himself. I hope that both he and his ex pull through this and put it behind them.

There still has not been any real evidence released with regards to this case. It is obvious that his ex-girlfriend released those tapes and there is no way that someone goes that off-the-wall without issues of his own. I still think Mel’s ex-girlfriend has demons of her own which she needs to have addressed as well.

My likely prediction is that Mel is a fire and his ex-gf new when to add fire and did.

I find this enourmously amusing. Mad Max is not mad enough to contest the battery charge. That would never happen to Sylvester Stallone. (Hope I spelt your name right Sylvester…..I have trouble spelling Italian names correctly)

Mel has had issues ever since making of The Passion of The Christ….he did not get spiritual covering first and is now on Satan’s hit list….He needs everyone’s prayers not condemnations.

Well he always played crazy in those Lethal weapon movies and we all know that love can make the best of us go off the deep end.
He should use his head though and remember any phone conversation can be taped as well as anything in writing will be spread all over the place!
He does look way older now too-the smoking isn’t helping much.

It’s also sad how the famous use their fame against each other as a tool when things go bad. They seldom keep their separations & divorce as private issues, and instead drag each other through the mud in public trying to hurt each other’s careers. The only one in Hollywood that seems to be at all discreet is Renee Zellwegger. Nobody knew why her relationships ended, they were private issues and she kept them that way. Good on her. I have a great respect for her as a person & as the fantastic actress that she is.

WELL, it’s a GOOD thing that he’s agreed to Counselling…hope it will help him! To be agreeing on settling this out of court, is definitely better for the kids involved. It’s a wise move, and in the long run,may be better for Mel–he won’t go to jail! All the best for Oksana &her kid. They don’t need the grief!
