Madonna banned Winslet from husband’s soundtrack

By Alexandra Heilbron on June 19, 2009 | 35 Comments

MadonnaLooks like Madonna doesn’t like Kate Winslet. When a song written by Winslet’s father, Roger, was chosen by Guy Ritchie to appear on the Snatch soundtrack, Madonna stepped in and put a stop to it. Roger has told the Daily Mail: “Me and Pete (Brooks) heard that Guy Ritchie was making a follow-up to Lock Stock, so a mutual friend sent him a tape of track that I had only just written. Apparently he absolutely loved it and asked us to go down to his place at Chelsea Harbour. When we got there he played it and played it again saying that it was perfect for the soundtrack. I thought, ‘Lovely, we’ve cracked it’.” He added: “However, unbeknownst to me, Madonna, Ritchie’s wife at the time, was in on the music selection. I heard that as soon as she knew who my daughter was, she scuppered it. Just imagine it, I was that close to being on Snatch. Bloody hell, if you can get on a movie soundtrack you’ve really made it.”

he’s whining about SNATCH???? that was like how many years ago????

man oh man, when you want to dig some dirt on someone and you’ve got nothing in this decade…

    Roger, it’s 2009, get over it…

  2. Monique • June 19, 2009 @ 12:42 PM

I tried watching that movie twice – fell asleep twice.
I agree with Jo-Anne get over it!

  3. Silvana • June 20, 2009 @ 1:44 AM

Yup I agree also with Joanne…that’s a sleeper news flash, how many years ago is that film…and crappy movie to begin with…so Guy Ritchie needs more than that to be in the big league….Cheers 🙂

I’m not sure that this article is as much about Roger as it is Madonna’s controlling nature. Think about it.

And for the record, Madonna hasn’t been relevant since the 90’s. Don’t kid yourselves.

  5. robyn • June 20, 2009 @ 9:24 PM

Madonna is a total moron bimbo…a legend ONLY in her own mind;-!)

  6. demigod • June 21, 2009 @ 6:06 AM

She tries to stay relevant..garnering more attention dating a much younger bf. But it really is all about making a statement. Trying to prove something. She calls her ex ‘immature’, then goes out with a 22 yr old lol.
She puts out a book of racy pics called ‘Sex’.(nothing but freaks, and nothing arousing) and kisses girls in videos pretending she’s bi. She’s nothing but a poser, and tries to portray this sexual persona for shock value and controversy.
You really want to shock us ‘Madge’? Really prove you’re daring and ‘out there’? How about this. How about doing an all out full-blown PORN video! Really put yourself out there! Take on numerous guys (and girls) and make it truly hardcore! And promote it. Only then will we RESPECT you, and be regarded as edgy and shocking (well not to me, but to the masses). But I suppose that would be too risque and controversial for you. But what would you have to lose? Your reputation? Who cares, right?
You’re not any more sexual than the next girl, so drop the act and stop pretending you attention wh@re.

  7. Jo-Anne • June 21, 2009 @ 9:55 AM

    “hasn’t been relevant since the 90’s” ???

“a legend ONLY in her own mind” ???

    well…facts…just facts…
    1) “Best selling female rock artist of the twentieth century.”
    2) “2nd top selling female artist in the U.S.A. – 63 million albums.”
    3) “Guiness World Records World’s Most Successful female recording artist OF ALL TIME.”
    4) “2008 – highest grossing tour EVER by solo artist.”
    5) “Forbes 3rd most powerful celeb of the year.” current…

okay, so I get it you DON’T personally like her…that’s cool…but irrelevant, legend in her own mind????

oh, others would wish to be so irrelevant…

  8. lily • June 21, 2009 @ 11:02 AM

I totally loved Snatch (esp. Brad Pitt’s hilarious ‘accent’; no, make that everything about Brad in that movie). Loathe Madonna but gotta agree with Joanne that she is a certifiable superstar. (btw impressive research JoAnne!)

  9. r • June 21, 2009 @ 6:43 PM

you people are f***ing retarded. any sane human being would be commenting on how much of a raging c**t madonna is. who cares when it happened, i don’t think he’s been harboring a grudge, he just told a story about how guy ritchies ex wife was a fu**in bitter petty b!tch.

  10. r • June 21, 2009 @ 6:44 PM

nevermind i’m on tribute.ca what the shit am i even doing here? bunch of blind madonna fans who thought snatch sucked. way to wear the indoor helmets guys.

  11. Jo-Anne • June 21, 2009 @ 7:12 PM

    “r” who are the “bunch”?
doesn’t “bunch” constitute more than one???

    who ya calling blind now?

  12. George Lundgren • June 21, 2009 @ 7:38 PM

Blah-blah-blah and BLAH… I felt sorry for Guy the minute he married that femme fatel. And as for Snatch it is a classic CULT film… which means you love it or hate it. I, myself love it and have watched it more than three times. So all you nay Sayers can just piss off. Yeah I am a HUGE Guy Ritchie.
    porgie

  13. Carol • June 21, 2009 @ 8:31 PM

Madonna is very successful, no doubt about it, and I LOVED her in her earlier days, Like a Virgin, Austin Powers, Evita, but I can’t take her anymore. I find she is over the top. And I know it is mainly because she can, but dating these guys more than 1/2 her age, (which she does have the looks for it, physically she is pretty amazing and I wish my bod looked like that) and pushing so hard to adopt that girl against the fathers wishes. I think she has too much handed to her now that she is more about doing something that needs a fight or draws attention, but then, in saying that, Madonna was always about that.
But I just think the pop idol I followed was very different then the one out there now. I think Madonna is crossing the line. She is a mother now, and with kids, yes, she has a certain image, but once you start wearing the “parent” hat, things should change a bit.

  14. Jo-Anne • June 22, 2009 @ 9:19 AM

George, you aren’t limited to LOVE or HATE for any film…there is a whole range of options…

Personally I loved Snatch myself but there is room for many opinions and levels of like, dislike, boredom, top notch, mediocrity…etc.

you know, Carol, the “Hate Madonna Campaign” has been launched on Tribute ad nauseum, but what I find particularly interesting (though sadly not surprising) is the number who openly trash her, yet more than one adopting a “Go Mel Go” opinion re Gibson and his young flame…

yet we somehow think we’ve “advanced” in 2009…

  15. demigod • June 22, 2009 @ 1:42 PM

Jo, there are big distinctions to make re your last comment. Younger woman/older man is way more prevalent for many reasons, not to mention more ‘natural’. Not to say an older woman/younger man isn’t possible, but generally the relation dynamics aren’t there.
Women need someone to look up to.
Sure an older woman can be attracted to younger on a sexual level, but that is usually fleeting, and quickly runs it’s course.
Re this new ‘relationship’ of hers, being the control freak she’ll be telling him what to say/do/think/act/dress. He’s a puppet, and she has ZERO respect for him.
Madonna is just being Madonna. Trying to break religious, cultural, and relationship taboos for attention. And to piss off daddy. Little she does is genuine. And that’s why we hate her. 🙂

  16. Jo-Anne • June 22, 2009 @ 3:08 PM

I didn’t realize you knew her personally, d.g….

I get all my genuine facts from gossip mags, websites…

next time you have her over for tea and arsenic, invite me, I’d love to witness the “truth” firsthand…

“Women need someone to look up to” – did you steal this gem from Planet of the Apes…

  17. Carol • June 22, 2009 @ 5:15 PM

Jo-anne, not sure why you addressed that to me. I’m not for Mel either. I think he is off his rocker. I was a HUGE Madonna fan, I’m just tired of her, that is me personally.
I don’t HATE Madonna, just think that my time of idolizing her is done.

  18. Jo-Anne • June 22, 2009 @ 5:45 PM

sorry Carol, if I misinterpreted your earlier post…personally, I don’t hate her, idolize, like her or dislike her, I was simply pointing out regardless of personal feelings towards here, she’s HUGE re relevance in the successful entertainer market…

  19. demigod • June 23, 2009 @ 4:22 AM

    Jo-Anne on June 22, 2009 3:08 PM

No need to get snitty with 4 shots of sarcasm and not one point to make.
Tell me what a 50 yr old woman would see in a 22 yr old guy, other than sexual?
When’s the last time you’ve seen a pair like this with this age gap? Let me answer that for you..NEVER.
Would a woman settle for someone they don’t respect?
Mel Gibson is most likely in his for the right reason. Madge? Not so much.

  20. Jo-Anne • June 23, 2009 @ 8:39 AM

I believe I made my point very well, d.g., and the fact that you choose to ignore that is your style…

Mel in “for the right reason” and Madge not – excuse me if I don’t find your “facts”…well, fact.

Hopefully mutual respect would factor into a man’s “settling” as well…

  21. demigod • June 23, 2009 @ 2:17 PM

Fact is Madge is a pretentious egotistical ball-busting, impossible-to-please cow.

You can’t concede the sexes differ in the qualities they look for in a mate?
Are you going to give me that lame addage of ‘What’s good for the goose..’?

  22. moondog • June 23, 2009 @ 2:52 PM

‘I get all my genuine facts from gossip mags, websites’

there u go dg go read some rags adn u will be as smart as her

  23. Jo-Anne • June 23, 2009 @ 3:02 PM

moondog, wise up…sarcasm…even YOU shoulda caught that…

  24. Jo-Anne • June 23, 2009 @ 3:08 PM

no, d.g., I can’t concede that every single male/female on this planet requires same criteria as you in a partner…

the only blatant lameness here are your Me Tarzan/You Jane conclusions…

  25. Nancy • June 23, 2009 @ 4:03 PM

    15 Rag Mag subscriptions! Hahahaha!!!!

  26. Nancy • June 23, 2009 @ 4:04 PM

  27. demigod • June 24, 2009 @ 3:35 AM

I’ve read everywhere she is seeing this 22 yr old. Is this not true? I’m just calling the b!tch out.
Tarzan/Jane whatever..if that’s all you’re getting from what I’m saying so be it.

  28. lily • June 24, 2009 @ 6:28 AM

dg 4:22 You had me right up until the last line. What is Mel’s “right reason” and why do you assume he is any more “right” then Madonna is? I think you nailed the reason dead on for both of them: EGOTISTICAL.
P.S. Younger woman/older man is only more “natural” because women haven’t been in rich and powerful positions for as many years, historically. Give us a few more years and couples like Demi/Ashton, Cher/whoever, and Madonna(YUCK)/latest boytoy will not even warrant discussion.

  29. demigod • June 24, 2009 @ 1:30 PM

Lily, I do think Mel has the right intention and got involved with someone he’s genuinely attracted to. Fickle Madonna genuinely attracted to a 22 yr old? Sorry, not sincere. She has an alterior motive/agenda.
I don’t buy that explanation of things changing when/if women are more rich and powerful. That’s waay down on a list of men’s search criteria.

  30. moondog • June 28, 2009 @ 7:51 AM

should ban madonna from this earth

  31. lily • June 28, 2009 @ 8:00 AM

moondog 7:51 and pretty much all the comments you posted this morning: LOL! I like how you get to the point with fast and funny comments.
