Man fakes robbery for Oprah tickets

By Alexandra Heilbron on May 19, 2011 | 17 Comments

An Ontario man pretended to have been robbed in an attempt to score one of the 13,000 tickets to Oprah Winfrey’s final show. A-listers such as Tom Cruise, Beyoncé, Madonna, Tom Hanks, Will Smith, Halle Berry, Katie Holmes and Dakota Fanning were among the celebrities on hand for the star-studded event. Police say Robert Spearing, 44, came to Chicago with his wife, believing he could buy tickets to the event. When he found they’d all been given away via lottery, he concocted a story about how he was robbed of his show tickets by two suspects. NBC News reported that officers say Spearing “allegedly scraped his hands on the sidewalk and used a rock to make a small cut on his forehead.” He later revealed it was a hoax, admitting he’d faked the robbery so his wife wouldn’t be mad at him when she found out he couldn’t get tickets. Spearing was charged by Chicago Police with felony disorderly conduct.

I hope his wife isn’t quite the ogre she sounds like if he was driven to such desperate measures to make sure she wasn’t mad at him. Poor guy.

Why would you go to such troubles to see this stupid cow’s show. I really don’t like her. Yeah she does a lot of charity yadiyadiyada but she’s soooooooooooo anoying.

You would have to rob me and hold me at gunpoint to go to that show. Self-inflated, egotistical, out of touch with reality moron.

It sounds like he was using the wife as a scape goat. I don’t pity him at all.

    AGREE 100% David.

Why would he not check before leaving home??
I bet he checked there would be a hotel room…right??

His wife was probably in on the “plan” too.
Bet the guy is happy enough to have an article written about him online- hopefully his employer sees this and can know how much of a Shmuck thing guy is.

I don’t think it is worth mentioning his name as he is just silly and deluded.

“Orpah” should have set up a big screen so people could have seen he show outside- that would havebeen generous of her, or sell tickets for $5 and give the money to charity.

@Germain @David Wow!!!!! I can’t imagine the lifestyle Oprah has made for herself would cause such hateful and abusive words. Do you suffer from a bad attitude or envy? I don’t understand how someone can be so unhappy and unsatisfied in their own life that they feel trashing others would make them feel a better person. You don’t have to like or agree with what others say or do.. they still deserve respect, a word I pressume is in your vocabulary somewhere.

@Marilyn Your taking yourself too seriously, just like Oprah, you must LOVE to hear yourself talk. It’s not hate, it’s overexposed, overrated, over everything, it’s enough of her already.

  9. Red • May 20, 2011 @ 12:02 AM

Germain, your comments are overexposed, overrated, over everything. They read like a broken record “hate…hate…hate…”

Oprah has done a lot in her lifetime and deserves every bit of publicity she gets.

Germain, agreed, Oprah has done many things but they have all been done for publicity and building of her reputation. When the stories about Oprah’s real attitude came out while on the show’s trip in Australia it became very obvious that she is not the patron saint her reputation has led us to believe. I am not saying she is bad, just very over exposed.

Thanks Aries, glad I’m not the only one thinking there’s something wrong with her.

  12. David • May 20, 2011 @ 2:45 PM

@marilyn what the hell are you talking about? What’s hateful about calling someone egotistical and self-inflated? She is! It has nothing to do with me being unhappy about my life – I actually quite love my life. Just cause she is on tv doesn’t mean she automatically deserves my respect. Sounds like you are a bit of a ‘sheep’ and my guess is you are probably a hypocrite. Let me guess, you absolutely love Howard Stern, right? Go suck eggs, lady.

Ophrah for President lol. 13,000 tix for her show that’s a big audience. Plus tv ratings $..rich get richer. It’s history in the making I suppose, but sadly people she is not going to disappear, she is so ‘big’ she now has her own network.
One thing is certain, hate/love her either way she paved the way as a self-made billionare TV and movie mogul starting in the 80’s, she paid her dues in that industry and to a lot of people what Oprah says is the word of God apparently. That’s quite the accomplishment. She can make or break book authors. The world waited to hear who’d she’d endorse as the next President in the states (guess who won), she has a lot of pull.
I’m not for or against her, I could care less, but what she has done and continues to do (along with her charity work) is impressive. If she was off the air tomorrow, I could care less though.

Very well said, C-Dub! Germain, I don’t necessarily agree with your opinion here, but I won’t rip you apart for it. Speak your mind!

  15. Germain • May 22, 2011 @ 11:53 PM

C-Dub and Linda, I see where your coming from but to your point, people waiting to see who she would endorse for Presidential elections and see what she reads before deciding what they’ll read next is what I see as pathetic. People that can’t make up their own mind and put those celebs on a pedestal. Ohh Oprah doesn’t like it so I guess it’s bad. SHEEPS!! That’s why she’s so popular, because people take her words and take it to the bank and that’s why she has such a big head.

We definitely would choose a Mac book Air flow for $999 when compared with an apple ipad tablet 64GB regarding $699
