New inductees announced for 2023 Canada’s Walk of Fame

Tantoo Cardinal, Avril Lavigne Canada's Walk of FameOn the 25th anniversary of Canada’s Walk of Fame, the newest inductees will join the “walk” as Canadian figures of greatness and pillars in their respective fields.

Five inductees have been added to the list, including co-founders of Roots Canada — Michael Budman and Don Green (Entreprenurialship and Philanthropy). Multi-award-winning actress Tantoo Cardinal, who continues to break barriers for Indigenous actors around the world, global superstar Avril Lavigne and Gary Slaight, a philanthropic champion of Canadian culture all represent the Arts and Entertainment category.

“For 25 years, Canada’s Walk of Fame has celebrated more than 200 inductions, recognizing some of the most accomplished, influential, and inspiring trailblazers, record-breakers, change-makers, and superstars of the world – whom we are so fortunate and proud to call as Canadians,” said Jeffrey Latimer, CEO of Canada’s Walk of Fame.

Previously announced inductees of 2023 include Supreme Court Justice Rosalie Silberman Abella (Humanitarianism), the wildly popular show Degrassi (Arts and Entertainment), NHL superstar Connor McDavid (Sports and Athletics), television star and commentator Rick Mercer (Arts and Entertainment), and neuroscientist Dr. Brenda Milner, the oldest living inductee at 105 years old.

In a second ceremony, Canada’s Walk of Fame will welcome 13 influential rock music legends to Canada’s Rock of Fame. Legends in the country’s music industry from the 1970s and 1980s, the Inductees are April Wine, Chilliwack, Glass Tiger, Lee Aaron, Lighthouse, Loverboy, Max Webster, Michel Pagliaro, Platinum Blonde, PRISM, Rough Trade, The Parachute Club, and Trooper. The special additional event will be held on September 28, 2023 at Massey Hall.

Canada’s Walk of Fame 25th Anniversary Celebration will take place on December 2, 2023 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. The event will be broadcast on CTV at a later date.

The rest of the 2023 Inductees with be announced within the coming months, in addition to the Allan Slaight Music Impact and the Community and National Hero Honorees. ~Ireland Fidale

    Let’s hope that the one guy from Roots doesn’t knock anyone over with those gigantic eyebrows of his at the ceremony.
