Oz: The Great and Powerful gave the box office a hefty boost this weekend. The new Disney movie, which currently has a rating of 4.4/5 stars from Tribute.ca users, brought in an estimated $80.3 million across North America in its first three days – the best opening for a movie so far in 2013. Jack the Giant Slayer saw its earnings fall off a beanstalk. The family fairy tale film, although highly rated by Tribute.ca users at 4.36 stars, managed to bring in only $10 million this weekend, dropping it down to second place. Identity Thief, with a rating of 3.5 stars, dropped to third place with $6.3 million.
Friday’s other new release, the Colin Farrell thriller Dead Man Down, had a lukewarm opening with $5.4 million, although Tribute.ca users have given it a healthy 4 star rating so far. Rounding out the top five was the action film Snitch, with $5.1 million and a 3.5 Tribute.ca user rating. The other movies in the top 10 this weekend were: 21 & Over, Safe Haven, Silver Linings Playbook, Escape from Planet Earth, and The Last Exorcism Part II. ~Cassie Jasinski
Oz is definitely a movie worth seeing.
My mom saw it and says other than when Oz or Glinda picks up the China Doll, the CGI is good and the movie is totally worth seeing. I will be going then 🙂
I’d probably watch Oz on a Tuesday – cheap movie day! haha
