What to watch at home this week – July 17 to 23

Special Ops: Lioness – Cruz Manuelos (Laysla De Oliveira) has had a tough life. In order to get away from an abusive boyfriend, she enrolls in the military, where she gets a physical rating as high as any man. Her intelligence also plays a factor as she’s chosen to be a part of a Special Ops team, led by Joe (Zoe Saldana), who just lost one of her team to the enemy. Debuts July 23 on Paramount+.

The Bear: S2 – Carmy Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White), a chef from the fine dining world, has renamed his family’s Chicago sandwich shop The Bear. He finds to his dismay that the shop needs major renovations in order to become a fine dining establishment. He sends Marcus (Lionel Boyce), the pastry chef, to Copenhagen in search of new inspiration and to learn from a master (Will Poulter). Debuts July 19 on Disney+.

Lionel Boyce, who plays Marcus on the Disney+ series The Bear, reveals what it’s like filming the chaotic scenes that take place in the restaurant. He also shares what he learned while training with a pastry chef in Copenhagen in preparation to play Marcus and how much of the baking he actually does himself.

Stephen Curry: Underrated – The remarkable coming-of-age story of one of the most influential, dynamic and unexpected players in the history of basketball: Stephen Curry. This feature documentary – blending intimate cinéma vérité, archival footage and on camera interviews — documents Curry’s rise from an undersized college player at a tiny backwater Division I college to a four-time NBA champion, building one of the most dominant sports dynasties in the world. Available July 21 on Apple TV+.

Sweet Magnolias: Season 3 – Following the brawl at Sullivan’s, Maddie (JoAnna Garcia Swisher) wrestles with the best way to help Cal (Justin Bruening) and works to clear her own emotional path. Helen (Heather Headley) faces difficult decisions about the men in her life. And Dana Sue (Brooke Elliott) searches for a way to use Miss Frances’ check to help the community, without upending her family. The identity of the tire slasher sends shockwaves through Serenity, the recall causes unexpected consequences, and there are romantic surprises in every generation. Debuts July 20 on Netflix.

The Last of Us – Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey), a pair connected through the harshness of the world they live in, are forced to endure brutal circumstances and ruthless killers on a trek across post-pandemic America. Available July 18 on DVD and Blu-ray.

Love Again – After the death of her fiancé, Mira Ray (Priyanka Chopra Jonas) tries to ease the pain by sending texts to his old cell phone number. When Rob (Sam Heughan) is given a business cell phone and is assigned that number, he’s curious about the messages. In one of them, she reveals where she’ll be that night, so he decides to get a glimpse of her. Ray spots Mira and they form a connection, but he’s torn about whether he should tell her about the texts. Available July 18 on DVD and Blu-ray.
