The stench is overwhelming

May 19, 2014

If I could give zero stars I would. Both theatres reek of urine, stale booze and BO. Many seats are broken or duct taped together and the floors....oh god.....I don't want to see them with the lights on. The bathrooms should be condemned, absolutely a third world experience. The clientele drink openly, talk on their cell phones and shout at the screen. The picture quality is an abomination and the sound quality is like listening to an 8 track in a culvert.

Bulldoze both to ground, and build one new modern theatre.

April 23, 2014

Two adults admission 18.00, one child 6.00, popcorn, drink, around $60.00 for a lousy, terrible and shitty experience, with no ushers enforcing cell phones, texting and teenagers letting their friends in for free at the back of the theatre. At least the underages get to have some alcohol to numb their free experience, or Blu-Ray at home or Netflix for 7.99 a month, make your own healthy popcorn, pause the movie, buy your own twizzlers or nibs for dirt cheap at Walmart, not the nasty price at the theatre. Priceless! You save on this scenario, $49.00. No smell of urine, drunks passed out or yelling at the ripped, spitballed screen, a projectionist who adjusts the focus a 1/4 way through the movie, after the previews who only noticed upon complaint....why bother, the theatres in Whitehorse built in the late 50's and early 60's blow. Dismal, and embarrassing. Even Landmark cant deny it. A company representative said, “This situation is an embarrassment.” No doubt, so what is the big company gonna do about? Likely nothing until both theatres rot to the ground. Shame on Landmark!

How can you put in no stars or less than full stars??

April 23, 2014

These theaters are the most disgusting ever. The health inspectors should shut them both down for violations. Landmark should close them, as any revenue isn't worth the overhead....I am giving no stars as these theaters are not worth any at all. The stale air, the sticky floors, fecal matter filled seats, urine, booze bottles, nasty popcorn, all not worth any experience, less to stay home and watch Blu Ray on HD and surround sound. They both should be condemned!! GY Health Inspectors, go in for a surprise inspection.

Washed my clothes and showered.

April 23, 2014

Was convinced to go to a movie in Whitehorse for the first time in 2 years. Gross. The smell of urine and disgusting sticky seats, armrests and floors. When I go to any other city I watch many movies. Even in the small city of Juneau Alaska. Not here. Not again.

Completely embarrassing.

April 22, 2014

Everything about these theatres are terrible. The Yukon Cinema is a vintage building that's falling apart and should have been closed in the 70's. While the Qwanlin is prefab metal building, it was built as a temporary theatre in the 80's till Whitehorse got a new theatre(that never came). But they kept it around all these years. You could set up a bunch of folding chairs in garage with an SD TV and it would be a better experience.

Landmark doesn't care

April 21, 2014

Members of our community have complained. Written letters. Made facebook pages. Landmark paints the floor, brings in 3D, and that is it. These tired and run down Theatres need replacing. In the 13 years I have lived here, there has been a sign saying "coming soon landmark theatre" in another area of town. However they don't follow through and the sign deters any other companies from building here. Another demonstration of how big companies don't care about small communities!

GET RID OF THESE THEATERS!

April 21, 2014

Everything about BOTH of our theaters SUCKS!!! The place is gross, the staff is BRUTAL (they have no customer service skills, most of the time they would rather talk amongst themselves than help the customers.) The floors are covered in YEARS of nasty pop and other spillage. Almost every damn seat is broken, you are lucky to get one with a cup holder! the place is freezing cold, and the seats smell like pee (i always bring a blanket and seat cover) who the hell needs to bring a seat cover OR blanket to a movie theater?!?! NOONE except whitehorse residents that's who!!! you guys have been promising a new theater for YEARS and still have not done it!!! How many SHITTY reviews do you need before you actually do something about these two theaters!!! Tear them down!! PLEASE!!! The only reason I gave 1 star is because I'm NOT allowed to give it ZERO stars!!! which is also CRAP!

doing the best they can

April 21, 2014

yes, these theatres are old but what are you gunna do. if anyone else has millions of dollars free to build new ones, knock yourself out. The floors are sticky because everyone spills their pop cause apparently humans have become incapable of holding cups. The seats are broken because everyone puts their feet up on them. They’re seats not foot rests. I don’t want you feet by my head. The theatre is cold because it’s the Yukon. When it’s -40 outside, it’s gunna be pretty cold. I found the experience perfectly fine. they have updated technology like digital movies and 3D. I don’t see why everyone is complaining about the employees. They’re teenagers. I’m sure you were the same or worse at that age, I know I was. I found them polite and patient and I don’t think you’re appreciating them enough. I’ve seen some customers be truly awful to these kids. Overall, these theatres are doing the best they can with what they’ve got, They could always close them so you can’t go to any movies

Depressing

April 21, 2014

The theatre here makes me feel sad. The chairs are falling apart literally. They try to make up for the awful sound system by playing the movie as loud as they can. The women's washroom has had a chunk of tiles missing from the floor (about a square foot) for longer than a year. The lid on the toilet is held together by duct tape. Last time I let the staff know that the bathroom was out of soap, they responded with "that's not my job." The worst thing though is the smell in the theatre. Last time it was so bad I had to leave partway through the movie with a headache. Disgusting

OMG... some people's mentality in the Yukon... unbelievable!!

April 21, 2014

I'm sorry - not for the purpose of offending but to WAKE YOU UP... For those who are defending it to a point where you try to spin it around by saying things along the lines of "they are doing the best they can" ...or - get this, this is my favourite one - "...it's cold because we're in the Yukon, when it's 40 Below..."!! You need to get out more, I'm afraid :) The Prairies are COLD... Siberia is COLD... all the same weather as the Yukon's, if not, sometimes WORST... Yukon is not the only place in this world that has 30 Below ya know :) Yet most theatres elsewhere are warm, more modern, and doesn't smell like urine like the ones in Whitehorse. Broken chairs because of patrons? Sure, but they had needed replacement since years ago, period. Otherwise, as mind as well never stock the shelves of grocery stores because patrons kept buying things... Give your heads a shake... Yukon may be beautiful, but half of its amenities are decrepit given its "thriving economy." My last visit to the cinema was also in 2005. It has nothing to do the "North" vs "South." I'd say, time for a new theatre... it's 2014.
