Barbara Walters chooses Honey Boo Boo for Fascinating People list

Barbara Walters has chosen reality show Here Comes Honey Boo Boo star Honey Boo Boo (real name Alana Thompson), 7, for her 2012 list of The 10 Most Fascinating People of the Year. Walters (who had the Kardashians on her 2011 list) told Us Weekly, “A lot of people will say, ‘This is ridiculous, this is a child at five or six years old entering beauty contests,’ but… Honey Boo Boo is not an obnoxious little girl. She’s sweet and loving with her mother and loving with her sisters. And now Anna [Alana’s teenage sister] has a new baby [out of wedlock], and the baby has three thumbs — but so what?” Many however, disagree, saying the show appeals only to the lowest denominator. The Voice coach Adam Levine told GQ: “It’s complete f***ing ignorance and the most despicable way to treat your kids…F**k those idiots. They’re just the worst.'”
Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, which airs on TLC, features subtitles because the family’s speech is almost completely unintelligible. During a promo tour for the show, the ever-charming Honey Boo Boo told TV talk show host Drew Pinsky: “Fans come up to me and I hate it.” If you haven’t seen the show and want to rot your brain, here’s a short clip of the child Walters calls “not obnoxious” and “sweet.” We beg to differ — but tell us below what you think of Walters’ choice.[poll id=”413″]

I can not believe these comments. Everyone seems to be so condecending, negative and think that they are so much better then this family yet they are willing to make these horrible judgements and comments towards a seven year old little child and for all the world to read -WOW! I am not impressed
poor kid – she’s just being herself – i don’t watch the show, but have certainly seen the commercials – its her parents decision to have her on this show – and reality TV has happened to all sorts of people.. frankly it could all go away and everyone would be better for it – including Honey Boo Boo and all the other TV kids. Hopefully they make enough money – that she has a good education and life ahead…..

I’m not going to criticize that little shit and her even shittier family (ok I just did a bit), it’s Barbara Walters that needs to be punched in her stupid, lisping face. This is an insult to ACTUAL fascinating people in the world who have incredibly interesting, inspirational and/or educational stories to tell. It’s sick that we as a society waste our time watching this crap and Babs should know better than to help perpetuate the deeply disturbing issue of the general population allowing their brains to turn to mush. Where once upon a time we may have said, “Don’t watch TV, read a book!”, it’s gotten to the point where we have to say, “Don’t watch THIS stupid-ass TV, watch something better!” because no one has the attention span to read anymore anyway.
I had to check it out for myself when I heard people saying you just gotta watch this show… This is an accurate statement from the article: family’s speech is almost completely unintelligible… That’s all you need to know and stop watching it there. OMG This show is trash. I see regular beauty contests the contestants are not always naturally when they appear all dolled up, so I won’t comment about the kids looks before they get all dressed up and caked on the make up. It’s the fact that people are wathcing this and makjing them rich for no reason except this kid clearly either has A.D.D. or just no care attitude and wants to just talk nonesense 24/7 and the mother allows it. It’s not funny. It’s disturbing.
Barbara, you are a respected journalist and I was thinking, from Kardashians to this..but then I thought about it- She is commenting on what society deems popular. I highly doubt she watches the show or actually finds it appealing either. She is just going to question why Americans (and other countries like us Canadians) watch this crap.
Stop generating ratings for these people, and have them get a read job and hopefully use this money for education for their future. And Please tell them their future will not include actual beauty pagents. That’s my personal opinion.
