Clay Aiken disses Rihanna

By Alexandra Heilbron on March 29, 2012 | 29 Comments

American Idol season two runner-up Clay Aiken recently appeared on Andy Cohen’s show Watch What Happens Live! The brutally honest singer had quite a bit to say about present-day artists. During a segment called ‘Plead the Fifth,’ Cohen asked, “What current pop singer wouldn’t make it past the first round on American Idol?” Aiken responded, “There are too many. Too many. I’ve stopped listening to them because they can’t sing. I’m not gonna plead the fifth, I’ve just got to think for a minute. He then added, “Rihanna has some pitch problems.” The Battleship actress/pop singer has yet to respond to the remarks. If you have any ideas on who the others might be, comment below — which pop singer do you think would be voted off American Idol?

Says the guy that admitted he got his chin done. Whatever, he is still right. Rihanna would b gone after 10 seconds of her singing, especially if Simon was judging her. As for who else would b gone, well…… eaasy, Kay Perry. I love her, but she is super pitchy. Her, T-Pain, Rebecca Black (although she truly isnt an artist to me), all of the Black Eyed Peas, Chris Brown (HE FREAKNG LIP SYNCS EVERY LIVE PERFORMAANCE!), Britney Spears (probably, since she lip syncs alot too), Jason Derulo, and the queen of the device, Ke-dollar sign-ha! Aka Ke$ha 😛

How about Mickey Mouse voiced Madonna???? Yes, definitely katy Perry, her screaming really gets to me.

  3. Stacey-Ann Jones • March 29, 2012 @ 9:15 AM

And we can’t forget that Idol judge Jennifer Lopez wouldn’t make it past the first round.

  4. lkjh • March 29, 2012 @ 9:40 AM

And yet who is more famous?? Pretty sure it’s Rihanna.

  5. Hairbag • March 29, 2012 @ 10:52 AM

agree with Rihanna , also Katie Perry ,Madonaa, the rest mentioned on above comments plus the three mentioned here would not waste my time or injure my ears by playing and to spend monies to see them never!!! I would share most of the new music out there if they had to sing without the computer behide them would all get booted off any talent show DISAGREE GO UNPLUGED
    and PROVE IT

  6. Yawnie • March 29, 2012 @ 10:55 AM

Britney Spears wouldn’t last 10 seconds on Idol. But then again, when someone like Clay loses to someone like Ruben Stoddart and Fantasia and Jennifer Hudson are the two finalists, they are probably going to let ANYONE past the first two weeks.

  7. Yawnie • March 29, 2012 @ 10:56 AM

Sorry, lkjh. Rhiana may be more famous, but it’s certainly not for her singing abilites but rather her personal issues.

  8. lkjh • March 29, 2012 @ 11:16 AM

any publicity is good publicity. maybe aiken should have some “personal issues”

Everybody likes to hate on Rihanna. She is one the hardest working singers out there. And she might not be a perfect singer but she has alot of creativity and can sure dance.
Why is it no one mentions how horrible Britney Spears is? Sorry but she’d never be able to work at McDonalds never mind passing American Idol…Spears have no talent other than lipsinc the songs that other people have wrote and produced for her…She also is a horrible dancer…And on her recent album her voice is so bad that they have synticized her voice…So she sounds like a robot singing…Yet, her albums seems to sell a zillion copies and people seem to have nothing bad to say about her…But for some reason, hating on Rihanna seems to be acceptable…Don’t forget the number one popular music in the US is country music…I rest my case.

  10. Meh • March 29, 2012 @ 1:44 PM

Country music is better than all the above mentioned.

  11. Trevor • March 29, 2012 @ 2:02 PM

Not a fan of Clay Aiken but he speaks the truth.

Real musicians play rock and roll.

  12. Bev • March 29, 2012 @ 4:21 PM

the other person who cant sing is Ruben Stoddart. Saw him live in Spokane Washington in a musical and wished they had put in someone else to sing the songs.

  13. 321 • March 29, 2012 @ 4:23 PM

Clay Aiken was a RUNNER-UP! He was washed up before he ever even became famous so he has no business criticizing Rihanna…who’s probably on every music chart right now. No one cares what Clay Aiken thinks. And I think Rihanna’s voice is actually pretty good…forget all that dance stuff on the radio. But her slower songs are amazing.

  14. Jacquie • March 29, 2012 @ 4:34 PM

Who cares if he had his chin done! He was first runner up. There are a lot of “runner ups” that are doing just fine! I agree with him about Rihanna but if I was him I would not give my opinion because someone is always going to be on you.
I happen to like his singing and have 2 of his CD’s.

White folks in the good ole USA (and Canada the wanna be USA) just hate it if any form of black form of music gets popular(soul, disco, RnB, rap, hip hop, reggae) unless of course its “adopted” by white artists like how Elvis did with soul, Abba and Bee Gees Disco, Emenem Rap/hip hop, Robin Thicke and JT RnB. Dont forget Whitney took y’all country song and made it into something no country singer could. “I’ll always love you” alright lol, so suck on that. Oh and rock and roll came from lil Richard and Chuck berry, Eric Clapton would have been nobody without Bob Marley’s “I shot the Sheriff” and Heavy Metal guitar was defined by Jimmy Hendrix. keep hating on blacks we use to it after all its been over 400 years. Country Music is the absolute worse form of music in the world! All that crying and whinging what a bunch of wusses you would think it was they (country singers) who were forced into slavery.

  16. BlackJag • March 29, 2012 @ 7:38 PM

@Garry…..You forgot to mention that we also “adopted” the 3 Stooges!

  17. Olive • March 29, 2012 @ 7:56 PM

Hey Garry, f off! I love R&B, rap, rock n roll, soul, some disco, and some reggae and Im from Canada. The people on here DONT like Rihanna because she cant sing. She uses to much auto tune for someone to stand and personally, Im sick of most Top 40 music because of it. Doesnt matter what race the singer is, auto-tune ruined music and gave little wanna bees like Rihanna, Britney Spears, and Katy Perry a crack at fame, despite their lack of talent. Plus, half of us on here probably hate country. I sure do. And yet I love I Will Always Love You. The problem we have Garry is that music is being ruined because all it is now is little talentless tramps remixing their voices and then passing it out as music so teenagers can buy it off of itunes. Im in the age range they are selling this at and I miss the days of GOOD music, where auto tune didnt exist. So dont say we’re all hating on Rihanna cause she’s colored. We’re hating on her cause she cant sing.

  18. Meh • March 29, 2012 @ 9:01 PM

Garry wins the worst comment award.

  19. J. • March 30, 2012 @ 4:51 AM

Country music isn’t even popular in Canada, but it sure is in the U.S.

  20. lily • March 30, 2012 @ 9:00 AM

Wow! Alot of angry people out there. I am from Canada and grew up with all the good music of the 80’s. I do love country music as well. People are right about auto tune because there are alot of singers out there that cannot carry a tune without it. Rihanna seems very talented but a little risky with her music. I’m sure she works hard at her craft as well as other singers. She is famous now and will fade as with other singers of the moment. I don’t personally listen to her music, although I have heard a song or two and they’re not bad. Who cares anyway, don’t buy her cd’s and don’t listen to her if you cannot stand her music. Garry, the attitude you have is what causes people to get their hackles up. Like what you like and worry about you. There are good people in Canada and the United States. Like country music or not, it is your business anyway. We are all entitled to our opinions are we not? We have control over what we do. Turn it off or tune it out if you hate it. peace

  21. Mandie • March 30, 2012 @ 11:11 AM

I love Rihanna, and most of her songs. I’m Canadian too, and Garry, you must have some extreme amount of ignorance about Canada, to actually believe what you said, to be true. Do you think we take dogsleds everywhere, and live in igloos too?
In fact, we pride our country on being multicultural, while the US merely calls yours a “melting pot”. What music one likes, is entirely based on preference; not colour.
As for the country music comment by J., country music is quite popular in Canada, but i find there are definitely more states in the US, that commercialize the “western” pop culture, than here in our provinces in territories. It’s definitely more popular in our prairies.

  22. Trish • March 30, 2012 @ 2:59 PM

Garry your a moron!! Nobody even brought up race! There were a lot of comments about Britney and she’s white!! People have to get over this color bullshit, who did what to whom and move on with their lives, and become a productive member of society!!

  23. Missy • March 30, 2012 @ 4:37 PM

Wow Garry, really nice comments. You diss people who don’t like the music you like while dissing another form of music you don’t like. Very mature. Rihanna has pitch problems. And Britney can’t sing at all. If I had to pick one of them to listen to, I’d pick Rihanna because she’s way better than Britney; at least her pitch problems are fixed in the final mix before the recording comes out; there’s nothing that can be done to make Britney sound good, but it still doesn’t mean Rihanna’s a talented singer or that I like her voice.

  24. deejay • March 30, 2012 @ 5:41 PM

Garry, first take it from a Canadian, we do not want to be Americans at all, that is why we wear Canadian flag pins when we travel. In case you are unaware, the USA is likely the most hated country in the world for pushing their politics where they have no business only for their own financial gain. Secondly, you personally were not a slave, your parents were not slaves, this is old news, get over it already. You can’t use this excuse anymore than you have. Whites now fall over to provide equal rights to Blacks at least in Canada they do, perhaps you should experience other countries before commenting! As for music, since when did the Beatles & Stones become black …… think about it man!

  25. Olive • March 31, 2012 @ 1:36 AM

Amen deejay! USA pretty much ruins the fun for all of us, shoving their politics down our throats, specifically (in my opinion, since Im a new bee to the world) SOPA. They think that becuase their the freaking USA that they can delete sites from Canada and all over the world if the law passed. No offense to the americans on here, I bet your all amzing people who dont care about this crap either, but if the US wasnt such a jerk to the rest of the world (bombing Japan despite no war for example) or to certain people of race and sexuality (Prop 8 anyone?) we wouldnt hate u. Hence why I created this little stupi thing for you guys: I am proud to b a CANADIAN, where we live in a peaceful land. Where we dont have to deal with petty Americans and their crazy, stupid crap.

  26. nadine • April 1, 2012 @ 4:21 PM

we love being canadain…we are NOT american wannabees!

  27. quinn • April 3, 2012 @ 3:32 PM

I think Katy Perry would be voted off. Also Kesha seems to me to do more yelling than singing.

  28. SClub7 • April 14, 2012 @ 12:12 PM

Thank you deejay! Garry is ignorant and knows nothing of the real world. I am Canadian and Canada does NOT want to be the USA. I work with Americans in my job – while they are all nice people, it is clear how different we are and I would never want to be anything but who I am today, a proud Canadian!

  29. pmo • July 8, 2012 @ 6:00 PM

Garry you are a disgusting supremacist, pick a new card the race card is getting old. You’re a hypocrite you say white people hate when black music gets popular, well that’s you making a racist comment yourself. You sure are an idiot. I never put down any race, you can’t judge an entire race, everyone is different. Garry, I’m pretty sure you live under a rock and that’s a good thing because I’m sure many wouldn’t want to be around you with your attitude. By the way I couldn’t be prouder to be Canadian!
