Demi Lovato still cutting herself

By Alexandra Heilbron on March 8, 2012 | 19 Comments

During an MTV documentary called Stay Strong, former Disney Channel star Demi Lovato, 19, revealed that despite a stint in rehab in 2010 for eating disorders and self-harming issues, she still cuts herself. She candidly admitted: “I cannot tell you that I haven’t thrown up since treatment – I cannot tell you that I have not cut myself since treatment. This has been a daily battle.” Demi said on the show that she had feelings of being too fat since she was four years old and despite losing 20 pounds when she was 12, she still obsessed about being overweight because she didn’t feel “worthy enough.” During her 2010 tour with the Jonas Brothers, her parents sat her down and told her they were sending her to rehab because, as she said in the documentary: “An addiction is an obsession, something that takes over your mind and your every thought. You think that you can’t live without it. For me, it was not eating and purging and self-harming.” Demi had the words ‘Stay’ and ‘Strong’ tattooed on her wrists where her scars from cutting herself are reminders to keep on track.

This is heartbreaking – she’s such a beautiful girl. Sounds like she still needs a lot of help though..

We live in such an odd society that a woman can be so effected by some fantasy image of what she should look like. She needs some perspective in her life to realize that first of all, she is beautful, and second, there are much more fulfilling things in life to focus on.

@David, more men and society should think like you

I am utterly shocked by alot of the comments made here!!

    She needs a man?

    OH MY GOD WHO CARES!!!!

Damn this girl is really Fd in the head who seems to really crave the spotlight

This is one of the reasons why this world is so messed up because there are people in this world who only have hatred & negativity in the hearts & mind. If every single person in this world would just realize that mental illness is a disorder & a handicap just like if she was paralyzed, had cancer or any other type of disease or physical/mental disorders. If more people were more sympathetic, empathetic and compassionate, this world would be alot more wonderful.

Demi is one of the most strongest artists there is in that industry. To have the courage to come forward & speak out about her disorders is amazing!! Especially being in the public eye all the time. Alot of people in that line of work try to hide all of their issues and/or problems because they fear a backlash like the comments posted here. Demi is a survivor & she should be hailed. Due to her vocalizing her difficulties.. she is showing a lots of young & older people that they are not alone. There are so many people in this world that have issues & for them to have a role model like Demi gives themm hope & faith. That they too, can get reach out to others & get help for their afflictions also.

Demi, I applaud you in your honesty & bravery. Thank you for standing up & admitting your issues & giving so many people someone that they can relate to. You may have a few stumbles along your path in life however, the main thing is that you keep getting back up. I sincerely hope that with the doctors care & love & support from your family…that you will also overcome these issues & be that much stronger for your journey.

Hey The Dude, Thetruh, and Mik: STFU!

This girl, along with many other girls and boys, have gone through a little thing called BULLYING. That really does screw u up, trust me it did 2 me as well. She started cutting herself and she started throwing up because some dumbass said she was fat. Actually multiple dubasses said this. And why do they do thus? Becuase just like u 3, they decide to hurt others and be negative for some f***** up reason.

She is craving the spotlight. She is a girl who is going through something very painful in the public eye. She doesn need a man, she needs help. And maybe if u guys werent so mean, you would realize that girls are looking up 2 her because she is an example of what becomign the “perfect girl” does to you and how you can overcome it. Maybe not fully but grsdually more and more.

So next time you leave a commen saying that she is fame wh*** and wants this attention, needs a man to feel better, or that noone cares about her and her illness, dont. Cause noone wants to here u be an ass****.

    And Katrina, your completly rigth.

    STAY STRONG DEMI!

You ladies seem to know everything about everyone. As if I don’t have my own addictions or mental issues. Where’s the compassion you preach so vividly in paragraphs for me and my bros? There are ways to cope with your addictions/demons and mental disorders, is getting tattoos on your wrists for everyone too see and comment on not reaching out for attention? Please lades, I understand what you’re all saying but open your eyes a bit at the same time and reserve that judgement and “hatred” you have to yourselves, thanks g’day.

This is spectacularly sad. Many excellent comments here with the exception of Trevor (you are a complete turd) and Mike (very insensitive). This girl needs help and should not be in the spotlight.

To the people who are saying she’s an attention seeker, or just looking for fame. SHE IS NOT. Ive been through the same thing as her, Ive cutted a lot before at age thirteen and fourteen, and my ex even laughed in my face. it doesnt mean im effed in the head, it just means I was depressed and needed help. So did demi. You guys are just rude to see how serious depression is and how it can cause a lot of lives.

Demi is a rolemodle for all teenagers, kids, and even adults, she is my rolemodle cuz she taught me to stay strong. this is heart breaking, but I know shes telling us for its own good. i love you demi.

She does need a man, and she is beautiful! But she likes One Direction’s Niall Horan! They would never see each other, Demi would get death threats like Liams and Louis’s girlfriends did, which would just make her life more difficult!! She needs a nice non famous man! Not trying to be mean, I love Demi, and I’m just stating the best for her!
