Comedian and actor Russell Brand has signed on with American cable network FX to front a late-night television series where Brand will give his “unvarnished, unfiltered take on current events, politics and pop culture.”

The unscripted series will air as six 30-minute episodes shot in front of a live studio audience, who will be able to participate and interact with Brand. “We’re very excited to add Russell Brand’s bracingly funny, original, and honest voice to the FX comedy line-up,” said Nick Grad, Executive VP of original programming. The network’s plan is to “strip down the hosted comedy format to its most fundamental elements and to create something daring and unfiltered for the FX audience.”

Starting in the world of stand-up comedy, Brand has slowly been trying to shift into Hollywood with films like Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Get Him to the Greek, Arthur, and the upcoming musical Rock of Ages. Nonetheless, the British star is looking forward to the new gig. “I am so excited I’m on the point of climax.”

The series has yet to be named but is expected to debut on FX in spring 2012.

Brilliant! I just saw him last week when he performed at Casino Rama, Ontario. I was thinking that an interactive talk show — with ordinary people, as opposed to celebrity guests — would be right up his dark and erudite alley!

He’s a funny guy but I can only take that voice for so long.

he isn’t that funny and his voice is so irritating. How does Katy Perry put up with his loud mouth?
