Cineplex Cinemas Yorkdale
The 10-screen Silvercity multiplex, located at the popular midtown Toronto shopping centre, replaced a six-screen Famous Players cinema that was the first movie house to ever be located at a shopping mall when it opened in 1963. Back then, Yorkdale was located on the edge of the city, in the suburbs, but is now in the thick of the city. The multiplex, which has more than 3,000 seats, was part of the mall’s expansion that opened in the summer of 1999. Since its opening, it has been one of Toronto’s most popular spots to see the biggest blockbuster films, and now houses an UltraAVX auditorium, which opened in February 2011.
