Jack the Giant Slayer climbs the box office

In its first week out, Jack the Giant Slayer, starring Nicholas Hoult, climbed to achieve the No. 1 spot at the box office, earning $28 million and 4.4 stars from Tribute.ca users. The action movie knocked the comedy flick Identity Thief out of the top spot to the No. 2 position, as it brought in $9.71 million and 3.4 stars out of a possible five. The third and fourth places in the box office belong to two new releases, a comedy and a horror film. 21 & Over grabbed third place, bringing in $9 million and a 4.2 star rating. The Last Exorcism Part II came in close behind with $8.03 million and an astounding 5 stars from Tribute readers. Rounding out the top five, Snitch dropped three spots in its second week out, but earned $7.7 million and 3.7 stars. No. 6-10 belong to Escape from Planet Earth, Safe Haven, Silver Linings Playbook (in its 16th week at the box office), A Good Day to Die Hard and Dark Skies.

    I saw Jack and really it’s so formulaic, but not much you can do since we are now resorting to fairy tales to provide us movie entertainment. Really, Hansel and Gretel etc… I just don’t get why we don’t have originality any more.
