Nicolas Cage’s accountant says actor is compulsive spender

By Alexandra Heilbron on November 18, 2009 | 7 Comments

nicolas_cageNicolas Cage‘s former accountant, Samuel J. Levin, has filed a countersuit against Cage, saying it’s not his fault the actor has financial troubles, because Cage is a compulsive spender. Cage is suing Levin, whom he says caused him to go “down a path toward financial ruin.” However, Levin says he was paid a standard fee for a business manager and that by the time he was hired in 2001, “Coppola [Cage] had already squandered tens of millions of dollars… and owed millions of dollars in… income taxes.” Court documents go on to say that Cage spent most of his free time “shopping for high-ticket purchases,” including 15 homes, a Gulfstream jet, and several yachts, despite Levin’s protestations. The pinnacle of [Cage’s] spending spree came with his Quixotic acquisitions of Midford Castle in England and Schloss Neidstein Castle in Bavaria.” Levin is suing for unpaid wages of $128,872.98.

Like, who really needs 15 houses, 2 castles, several yachts and a jet? Rent or lease them and turn your investments over! They’ll pay for themselves and then some. I don’t doubt one bit that he really does have a spending problem but, this accountant should have advised him of his monetary shortages and if steps weren’t taken to fix the problem, then it’s time to get out because the guy handling the money and books is always the one to get the blame when the cookie jar is empty.

Well said Nancy. When the cookie jar is left empty the baker is always the one to get the blame not the fat guy eating all the cookies. Let this be a lesson to all Financial advisers to the celebs.

im a compulsive spender, i never bought any castles yet though. its next on my list 😉 i feel bad for him. its very very hard to control yourself when you are a compulsive spender, its hard to think you dont need it. he should rent the castles and houses out for sure. i would ! then hed have more money for shopping!

Doesn’t matter, he earns it, pays others to keep him on top financially, and Levin dropped the ball. I would sue Levin’s butt too. What else was he hired for? To keep his finances straight. Come on.

“Levin is suing for unpaid wages of $128,872.98.”

Tuddy: According to Levin, Nicolas Cage doesn’t PAY others to keep him on top financially. If your boss wasn’t paying you and owed you almost $130,000.00 in unpaid wages, would you keep working and take the blame when the business folded and the boss pointed his/her finger at you?

if someone hired me and then didnt bother to pay me, i would quit i wouldnt wait until he owed me THAT much money. actually, i had to do that once. i worked at bun king and i was there for an entire month and they still hadnt paid me, he said he would pay me when he felt like it, so i had a big fight with him and quit and called the labour board and everything. when i was done he ended up over paying me by 50 dollars.
