It’s National Canadian Film Day today — April 17, 2024. Presented by Reel Canada, the annual event celebrates films made in Canada by offering free screenings and special events across the country, with over 1,000 showings of Canadian films.
The 2024 programming spotlights “films that A.I. could never make, reaffirming that no algorithm can embody the essence, or conjure the creativity inherent in a Canadian film,” according to a press release from Reel Canada.
Some of the beloved Canadian films that will be screening include I Like Movies, A Bear Named Winnie, Mr. Dressup: The Magic of Make-Believe, Wildhood, Ru, Blackberry, Starbuck and Ghostkeeper, to name a few.
Cineplex is providing theaters across Canada for showings, while other screenings will take place at local libraries, art centres, and independent theaters. To find local screenings near you, click here.
